Rossendale Combining became an integral part of the footwear industry
that developed in the Rossendale Valley, an industry employing over 50,000
at its peak. Providing a commission laminating and coating service RCC
grew alongside the merchant converters, establishing the link between
raw material sourcing and footwear manufacture.
In 1989 RCC was acquired by British Vita in a strategic move that strengthened
the ties between RCC and its supply chain; ties that continue to this
day. As a business RCC has had to adapt to the changing economic climate
focusing on technical developments as the footwear and traditional textile
industries, under attack from the import of cheaper finished articles
throughout the nineties, went into rapid decline.
